LG may be making its tablet comeback next month with the LG G Pad tipped to launch at IFA 2013.
Tipped to launch at the Berlin-based IFA conference in early September, the LG G Pad could be very similar to the new Nexus 7 2 but have an 8.3-inch display.
The new rumour comes from a Greek site called TechBlog, which states that the LG tablet should launch next month, designed to fit in the user’s back pocket.
However, with an 8.3-inch 1920 x 1200p Full HD display we expect the LG G Pad will be larger than the average pocket. With that resolution though, the LG G Pad will rival the pixels packed into the new Nexus 7 2.
With an ultrathin bezel and near edge-to-edge display, the LG G Pad is expected to follow the design cues offered by the newly launch LG G2 flagship smartphone. It should have an aluminium rear panel with the whole front panel made from reinforced glass, probably Corning Gorilla Glass.
Like the Asus FonePad, the LG G Pad is also tipped to be able to make phone calls, although users may look a little silly lifting an 8.3-inch tablet to their ear.
Under the hood, the tablet is said to pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 with 2GB of RAM.
The LG G Pad will most likely lack a stylus, meaning it won’t be able to directly rival the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 also tipped to make an IFA appearance.
LG hasn’t launched a new tablet since the LG Optimus Pad in 2011, but the rumours surrounding the G Pad have been bubbling away for a while.
In July, the name LG G Pad was filed with the Korean Intellectual Property Office, hinting that LG is plotting new product ranges including a smartwatch, tablet and eyewear.
The patent filing listed several new product names including the LG G Watch, LG G Band, LG G Glass, LG G Hub and LG G Link along with the LG G Pad.
