LG G Flex 2 lands as G3-inspired curved smartphone
LG is back to flexing its mobile muscles, unveiling the LG G3 inspired LG G Flex 2 during CES 2015.
Building on the company’s 2013-released LG G Flex, the second-generation model has dropped to an LG G3 mimicking 5.5-inch form factor – down on the original’s 6-inch heft – while upgrading to a 1080p Full HD display.
Although the handset has been given a substantial refresh, its curved party piece hasn’t changed. The phone still offers a banana-esque design thanks to a Plastic OLED display and a 700-radius curve.
“You may ask us, why curved again? The answer is pretty simple,” Dr Ramchan Woo, LG’s Head of Smartphone Planning said in unveiling the device.
“
While flexibility might not have been improved, LG still leads this party of one race on this front.
Curves aside, the LG G Flex 2 is a smartphone powerhouse in its own right.
The first consumer-available smartphone to come packing Qualcomm’s latest 64-bit Snapdragon 810 processor, the new G Flex pairs this 2.0GHz, octa-core power unit with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
On the camera front, the LG G3’s 13-megapixel laser-focussed snapper makes a reappearance with optical-image stabilisation and a number of software improvements. A secondary, 2.1-megapixel camera sits up front.
Running Android 5.0 Lollipop direct from the box and with Cat 6 LTE support offering theoretical download speeds up to 300Mbps, the 152g, 9.5mm thick G Flex 2’s specs sheet is rounded off by a 3000mAh Lithium-Polymer battery.
This power unit benefits from quick charge capabilities too, capable of hitting 50 per cent charge after just 40 minutes connected to the mains.

Although a precise LG G Flex 2 release date has yet to be confirmed, the manufacturer has suggested the device could launch in its native Korea later this month.
Similarly, finalised pricing is still to be announced, although LG has stated that the handset will command a ‘premium’ asking price.
The G Flex 2 will be available in two gradient colour schemes, Platinum Silver and Flamenco Red.
