LG exec to miss CES due to alleged assault on Samsung washing machines

One of LG’s top executives will be absent from the forthcoming CES expo in Las Vegas over a lawsuit alleging he sabotaged Samsung’s washing machines.

CNET reports (via The Verge) Jo Seong-jin LG’s head of Home Appliance and Air Solution Company, has been barred from leaving South Korea following an incident during the IFA gathering in Berlin back in September.

In one of the more bizarre stories we’ve reported on in recent times, Jo and four colleagues are accused of entering an electronics store in the German capital and kicking the doors off some expensive Samsung washer dryers.

Despite the appliance attack apparently being caught on CCTV, LG has denied the allegations and has countersued claiming Samsung officials had tampered with the machines.

LG also told the Wall Street Journal: “Unlike washing machines from other companies, a certain company’s washing-machine model was particularly weak on the hinges.”

The firm has requested the travel ban be lifted, but as it stands Jo won’t be allowed to take his annual place on the Vegas show floor.

The case shows the extent of the bitter rivalry between the two Seoul-based tech giants. Perhaps a Samsung vs LG boxing card at the MGM Grand in Vegas next month would be the ideal way to settle this?
