LG 55EM9700 55-inch OLED TV UK release date confirmed

LG’s 55-inch OLED TV has been set for launch with an LG 55EM9700 UK release date confirmed for Q1 2013 as pre-orders for the next-generation set begin in the company’s native South Korea.

Available for pre-order ahead of a February launch in its home nation, LG has confirmed that “LG OLED TVs are scheduled for launch in the UK during Q1 2013” with the LG 55EM9700, the company’s flagship 55-inch model, to lead the collection of eye-catching televisions.

“We are extremely pleased to be able to make this announcement at the start of the new year because we believe that OLED will usher in a whole new era of home entertainment,” Havis Kwon, President and CEO of LG’s Home Entertainment Company said.

“Not since colour TV was first introduced 60 years ago has there been a more transformational moment. When high definition TV was first introduced 15 years ago, the public’s reaction was ‘wow!’ but when customers see our razor-thin OLED TV for the first time, they’re left speechless. That’s a clear indicator as any that OLED TV is much more than just an incremental improvement to current television technology.”

Lining up at a near unbelievable 4 millimetres thick (0.4cm, 0.16 inches), the 55-inch OLED monster that is the LG 55EM9700 has been handed an 11 million South Korean Won price tag (£6343) whilst UK pricing for the expansive television set have yet to be confirmed.

Previously showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the LG 55EM9700 UK release date has been confirmed just days before CES 2013 kicks off. The immediate future of TV evolution, OLED displays are set to once again steal the show during this month’s CES expo.

Providing stunning visuals, the super thin OLED display weighs in a less than 10KG in weight and features LG’s unique Four-Colour Pixel WRGB imaging technology. Elsewhere, wide viewing angles are bolstered by LG’s Colour Refiner features which are incorporated to offer improved vibrancy to images.
