New technology, same good old ThinkPad quality.
Lenovo’s Centrino 2-based laptop lineup was leaked at the beginning of June, but as the platform didn’t become official until today we couldn’t get any confirmation on the details. Now the curtain is up on Montevina, however, Lenovo was good enough to get official with the details.
Most interesting, if you ask me at least, is the ThinkPad X200 (pictured), little brother to the fabulous X300.
The core specs look like this:
*12-inch 1,280 x 800 (WXGA) LED-backlit panel
*45nm Core 2 Duo CPUs up to 2.4GHz
*Intel Centrino 2 with vPro technology
*Initially mechanical hard drives, SSD options coming later
*HSDPA, GPS, Draft-N WiFi, Bluetooth
*9.6-hours of battery life (9-cell extended battery)
*3 USB ports
*Starts at 2.93 pounds (1.33Kg)
Interestingly the X200 forgoes a touchpad completely, sporting only a Trackpoint. That might annoy some users, but it does mean there’s enough space under the screen to fit a full sized keyboard in. There isn’t a DVD drive either, but if an optional ‘Slice’ is available, which sits under the X200 which offers this, as well as also boosting the battery to a stonking 13 hours or so.
Lenovo is also refreshing the T and R series of notebooks with some new models:
ThinkPad T Series:
*T400 / T500 models
*14-inch / 15-inch panels
*Intel Centrino 2 with vPro up to 2.8GHz
*Optional 64GB SSD / 320GB HDD
*512MB ATI Mobility FireGL graphics
*DDR3 1,066MHz RAM
*WWAN / WiMAX / WiFi / Bluetooth
ThinkPad R Series:
*14.1-inch R400 / 15.4-inch R500 models
*Core 2 Duo processors

*Up to 4GB DDR3 1,066MHz RAM
*Integrated Intel GMA 4500-series or discrete ATI Mobility Radeon 3000-series graphics (switchable)
*3 USB / FireWire / ExpressCard / VGA
Finally, a whole new range, the SL-series, is being launched. These are intended more for small businesses, and as such have a less corporate bent, including glossy black casings and the removal of the Think Vantage suite – helping reduce the systems’ cost.
*SL300 / SL400 / SL500 models
*13.3-inch / 14.1-inch / 15.4-inch WXGA panels (SL500 has WSXGA+ option)
*Core 2 Duo processors
*Integrated Intel GMA 4500-series and discrete graphics options
*ExpressCard / FireWire / 3+ USB ports
*Optional Blu-ray drive
*WWAN / WiMAX / WiFi / Bluetooth / GPS
Pricing isn’t available yet, but system should start popping up at retailers over the coming weeks, so keep a look out.
