Lenovo Smartband fitness tracker revealed

Lenovo has unveiled its first fitness tracking wearable, the Lenovo Smartband.

Following a brief appearance in an FCC listing earlier in the month, the Lenovo Smartband SW-B100 (to give the device its full title) has appeared on the Lenovo website with absolutely no fanfare from the Chinese tech giant.

It’s a fitness-focused wearable with a familiar wrap-around design that’s part Fitbit Flex, part Samsung Gear Fit.

That design influence seems to be reflected in the Lenovo Smartband’s functionality too. It’ll track your steps, distance covered, calories burned, and heart rate as with any other fitness tracker. However, the Smartband will also feed you call and SMS alerts, as well as appointments.

As the Smartband’s limited functionality will tell you, this is no advanced Android Wear smartwatch.

One particularly neat feature, however, is the ability to use the Lenovo Smartband to unlock your PC through proximity alone, negating the need to manually enter your password.

The Lenovo Smartband will launch in a choice of blue and orange, and will work with iOS and Android smartphones as well as the Windows 8 desktop OS.

There’s no news yet on when or where the Lenovo Smartband will be released, or what it will cost. Given the saturated nature of the market, it had better be cheap.
