Lenovo K900 Android phone with Intel processor announced

The Lenovo K900 Android smartphone has been unveiled at CES 2013, and it comes with a relatively unusual Intel processor.

Lenovo might not be a known name in the smartphone field, but its reputation for building high-quality laptops means that the Lenovo K900 deserves some attention - especially when it comes packed with such stand-out components.

At the Consumer Electronics Show currently taking place in Las Vegas, Lenovo unveiled its new super-slim large-screen flagship phone with the following specs.

Lenovo K900 Specs

The Lenovo K900 is a super-slim 6.9mm-thick phone, and it weighs in at 162g. That might seem a little chunky, but it's really not for this class of device.

Lenovo's established attention to build quality is in evidence here, as the Lenovo K900 is made of "a composite of stainless steel alloy and polycarbonate in a Unibody mold."

The Lenovo K900 sports 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display, which is the kind of giant HD screen we've been seeing a lot of at CES this year in the likes of the ZTE Grand S and the Sony Xperia Z. Needless to say, it's capable of producing a pixel density of around 440ppi

The truly interesting spec, though, is the Lenovo K900's Intel 'Atom' Z580 dual-core processor. It's a brand new component that signals Intel's continued intention to crack into the mobile chip market. It will be interesting to see how it performs - especially as Intel hasn't revealed full specifications for the chip yet.

On the photographic front, the Lenovo K900 will sport a 13-megapixel camera complete with a strong Sony Exmor BSI image sensor and an impressive f/1.8 lens. Lenovo claims that this is "the first smartphone to offer such a wide aperture on its camera."

Lenovo K900 Release Date and Price

Unfortunately the Lenovo K900 has only been confirmed for release in China thus far, which will happen in April. However, Lenovo claims that "select regional markets" will follow.

No pricing has been announced as yet.

Have to say that this has me interested. I'll be looking to move from my current Galaxy Note to some thing a bit friendlier from a custom fw dev perspective. The Samsung exynos processor coding is complete mess and Samsung aren't particularly forthcoming with any source codes so most devs are moving away from them as a result.

To me, assuming the Lenovo makes it to the UK, it'll be a toss-up between this and the Sony Z. I love the large screen real estate and the military grade build quality. The F1.8 apeture on the K900 is pretty tasty too. I guess the deal breaker will be the performance of the intel chip. I will be following this one closely.
