Meet Leica X-U, the £2,400 scuba-camera
Normally we’d recommend steering clear of water if you’re wielding a shiny new Leica, but not anymore.
Leica has just unveiled a brand new camera that’s waterproof, dustproof, and shatterproof to boot.
The Leica X-U is the company’s latest snapper, and can be fully submerged to a depth of 15 metres – that’s just shy of 50 feet.
But all that proofing comes at a cost; the Leica X-U will set snap-happy adventurers back a hefty £2,400 (or $2,950 in the US).
That might sound high, but you’re getting a quality camera without having to shell out for expensive waterproof housing.

Exactly how good is the Leica, though? The camera ships with a 16.5-megapixel APS-C sensor, a fixed Leica Summilux 23mm lens, and a f/1.7 aperture. It’s also capable of recording Full HD video at 30 frames per second.
There’s no viewfinder, but the Leica X-U does feature a 3-inch LCD display. And a final quirk – the camera’s flash sits on the end of the lens.
