Legend of Zelda Wii U release date may not lie in 2016

Legend of Zelda Wii U hasn’t been listed for a 2016 release by Nintendo, prompting fresh rumours about the NX console.

Nintendo’s most recent financial report suggests that Zelda Wii U won’t be coming in 2016. So could it be an Nintendo NX launch title?

Earlier this year, Nintendo said that a 2015 release for The Legend of Zelda Wii U wasn’t a “number one priority” and we haven’t heard anything since, with the title having not been shown at E3 this year.

If you take a little peek at Nintendo’s latest financial report, you will see a listing of all upcoming third-party and first-party release dates. There is very little out of the ordinary here, except for The Legend of Zelda Wii U.

The Legend of Zelda Wii U is listed underneath the confirmed 2016 release schedule as TBD (to be determined) along with Miyamoto’s unusual Project Giant Robot.

This doesn’t exactly mean that Legend of Zelda Wii U has most definitely been pushed into 2017, but its current state is worrying to say the least. If the game ends up missing out on 2016 it could very well be reworked as a Nintendo NX launch title.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess had a simultaneously release on both Nintendo Wii and Gamecube in 2007, so we could see the same happen here.

Series producer, Eiji Aonuma said recently that he and his team aren’t abiding by a specific schedule, and are trying to create the “complete and ultimate Zelda game.” He believes “the added time will be used to create a game that will reward fans for their patience.”

Legend of Zelda: Triforce Heroes was announced at E3 this year, a 3DS exclusive title with a focus on multiplayer and team-based puzzling.

This miniature adventure will have to tide us over until the next big Zelda title, which we are sure will be worth the wait.
