Lawbreakers coming to PS4 – and it costs much less than you’d expect

Lawbreakers is coming to PS4 with PS4 Pro support, developer Boss Key Productions has revealed.

Originally a PC exclusive, Boss Key has now developed the game to launch on PS4, with a beta also coming to the console ahead of launch, the developer told TrustedReviews in a roundtable interview.

“For us, this has been a very interesting ride,” COO Arjan Brusee said. “The first two years we were figuring out how to make really great PC shooters again, but since then we’ve been re-learning consoles to make it work great. So PlayStation 4 is our console partner of choice, it’s on the platform, running very well”

Boss Key has always insisted Lawbreakers would not be a full-priced game, and has now confirmed it will cost just $29.99 (~£25), with EU and UK pricing still to be confirmed. The developer has also confirmed that all future maps and heroes will be available at no additional cost to players, with microtransactions limited to weapon and character skins.

“I’ve seen other games come out that are multiplayer only,” CEO Cliff Bleszinski said with regards to the lower price point. “Maybe they have the depth, maybe they don’t. But they release the disc-based game and there’s like some secret Illuminati that says it has to be $60 [~£45] day one…and we knew in our heart of hearts that if we could have this as a kind of impulse buy price point.”

Brusee went on to reaffirm that Lawbreakers will not charge for DLC, believing it is an out-of-date system for modern online games.

“We are not going to charge for DLC or pay-to-win type of mechanics, we’ve all been on titles before with DLC and I think it works pretty poorly nowadays in online games. You have people with the DLC, people without the DLC, they can’t play together anymore.

“So as part of this $30 entry fee, you will get all the DLC and all the stuff we will ever release and what you can do in the game is buy cosmetics only.”

No release date has been confirmed as yet, but the game will arrive simultaneously on Steam and PS4 sometime this year.
