Latest Galaxy Note 7 leak gives us first real look at S Pen stylus

The Galaxy Note 7 launch is less than a month away, and as is now customary with any phone launch, we have a good idea already of what to expect.

Thanks to a seemingly never-ending stream of leaks in the run up to the phablet’s official unveiling, we’re almost certain of the device’s specs and design.

Although it seemed as though we might just make it to launch without getting a decent pre-release look at the new S Pen stylus, today’s Note 7 revelation has once again proven that nothing is leak-proof in the smartphone world.

An image has appeared online – courtesy of a Vietnamese electronics store and tech blog CEO – and tweeted by reputable tipster Evan Blass, which appears to show the upcoming Note 7 along with the S Pen.

Aside from the fact that the picture looks convincingly official, Samsung has a factory in Vietnam, and several Note 7 models approved by the FCC for US carriers have featured the “Made in Vietnam” sign – adding legitimacy to the leak.

If the picture itself is anything to go by, the S Pen will be colour-co-ordinated with the phone, while the tip will be coloured the same as the sides of the handset.

There have been several rumours in recent months that the S Pen will benefit from increased functionality, owing to the design of an event invite sent out by Samsung that highlighted the stylus.

Interestingly, as PhoneArena reports, Mai Nguyen, who posted the image on Facebook, claims the S Pen will also work underwater, allowing you to scribble on your new phablet while you take a dip – although we have no idea why you’d want to do that.

Of course, we’re unable to verify this claim, or anything about this alleged leak at this time, but the Note 7 has been rumoured to be the first waterproof Note phablet, so it could very well be true.

Other than the new-look stylus, the picture confirms what we already knew about the Note 7’s design. It shows the dual curved-edge screen, a USB Type-C port, and the lenses at the top of the device that will reportedly allow for iris-scanning technology.

The Note 7 is due to launch on 2 August at a dedicated event in New York, so there isn’t long to wait until all our questions are answered.
