Kazam Tornado 348 unveiled as world’s slimmest smartphone

British smartphone maker Kazam has become a world-beater, at least when it comes to the size of its handsets.

Joining the race to shave precious millimetres off its leading smartphone lines, the company has unveiled the Kazam Tornado 348. At a mere 5.15mm thick the device is officially the world’s slimmest smartphone.

“We are delighted to be unveiling the world’s slimmest smartphone,” Michael Coombes, CEO at Kazam Mobile Limited, said in unveiling the handset. “Kazam remains focused on innovating in areas often overlooked.”

Jeffrey Ju, SVP and General Manager of Wireless Communication at MediaTek, added “Kazam is a prime example of the changing face of mobile technology – hitting the market with the slimmest mobile phone.”

Kazam Tornado 348 Features
Although about more than just size, the Tornado 348’s party piece is undoubtedly is slim-line form factor.

The phone’s 5.15mm-thick frame is almost a full 2mm thicker than the already compact iPhone 6 (6.9mm) and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha (6.7mm). This streamlined body helps cut down on weight, too. The Kazam handset weighs just 95.5g.

Despite its compact nature, the phone features a metal uni-body design and crams a 2050mAh battery under the hood.

A mass of mid-range components are also present. With a 4.8-inch AMOLED display boasting a 1280 x 780p resolution, the phone’s screen is coated in Gorilla Glass for added protection. Powered by a MediaTek True Octa-core MT6592 processor, the Tornado 348 runs Google’s latest Android OS, KitKat 4.4.2.

Images are handled by an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera – with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities – and a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper for selfie lovers.

The handset is to be offered in both black and white colours schemes, and, like all Kazam handsets, offers a free 12-month replacement plan on damaged screens.

Kazam Tornado 348 Release Date and Price

Although the manufacturer has yet to announce a precise Kazam Tornado 348 release date, the company has confirmed the handset will be available from “mid November”.

Those tempted by the svelte form of the world’s slimmest smartphone will need to fork out £249 for the honour of owning one.
