John Lewis launches own-brand WebOS Smart TVs thanks to LG

John Lewis has announced it is launching its first own-brand WebOS powered TVs in a partnership with LG.

The John Lewis Smart TV range, JL9000, will be offered with three screen size options 49-, 55- and 60-inches, with online availability starting from April 30. You won’t be able to get them in-store until May 5.

All three sizes come with a 50-watt, 2.2 Channel soundbar and additional subwoofer, plus full 1080p HD screen quality.

“We wanted to create our own range of premium larger screen TVs that would have a distinctive look and also offer the benefits of the very latest in on-demand Smart TV technology, while being easy to use”, said John Kempner, Vision Buyer at John Lewis. “LG has helped us achieve this with a sleek and clever design that also includes a built-in soundbar to deliver an immersive sound and visual experience.”

The JL9000 range is powered by WebOS smart TV platform that works with terrestrial TV and combines catch-up TV services and other apps in a “simple and intuitive” way.

“The development of the JL9000 TV series illustrates the strategic partnership between John Lewis and LG – the first John Lewis-branded Smart TV, it is a premium development combining stylish design and smart technology,” said Andrew Mackay, LG Commercial Director for Consumer Electronics in UK and Ireland.

WebOS TVs offer access to services such as Now TV, BBC iPlayer, Demand5, YouTube, Skype, Twitter, Facebook and Netflix, just to name a few. These are all presented in the Launcher Menu, alongside connected devices and other recently accessed content.

The John Lewis WebOS TVs come with a Magic remote that is compatible with gesture, voice, scroll and point commands, enabling you to easily navigate the menus and functions.

You’ll also get an 8-megapixel camera for Skype calls, 3D passive viewing with two pairs of 3D glass included as well as A Plus energy rating thanks to the LED IPS screen technology.

Pricing for the John Lewis JL9000 series starts at £1,399 for the 49-inch model, £1,699 for the 55-inch panel and £2,199 for the 60-inch model.
