Jawbone has relaunched its personal health and fitness tracker, the Jawbone UP, with the wrist worn gadget once again hitting UK retailers today alongside an all new Jawbone UP Android app.
Originally launched back in 2011 before being pulled from shelves due to continuing battery issues, the newly revised Jawbone UP has officially relaunched across the UK and the rest of Europe today, with the Nike FuelBand rival adding to its formerly iOS exclusive compatibility.
“Today marks a big step toward our commitment to help people establish a basis for behaviour change by bringing UP to everyone who want to live better lives,” Travis Bogard, Vice President of Product Management and Strategy at Jawbone said.
He added: “Everyone wants to improve upon themselves; we’ve found this to be a fundamental human desire, no matter where a person is starting from or what they want to achieve.”
Jawbone UP Features
A multipurpose fitness and health tracking gadget, the Jawbone UP covers three main aspects of daily life, helping users keep tabs on their sleep patterns, eating habits and movement.
Playing host to a selection of inbuilt sensors and accelerometers, the Jawbone UP tracks all user movements, offering detailed feedback of daily activity such as steps taken and distance covered when connecting the device to the iOS or newly launched Android apps.
Building on the base movement options, the Jawbone UP app allows users to take snaps of their meals, transforming the food-based data into a calorie count that is then cross referenced with daily activity.
On top of this, the unit’s motion recording innards are able to intelligently monitor users’ sleep patterns, including hours slept, the amount of light sleep and deep sleep achieved and any moments during the night where you woke. An inbuilt vibration based alarm is capable of waking users at the optimum point in their sleep cycle.
Discussing the new Jawbone UP features over the original model, Bogard stated: “We are excited to expand the UP community by introducing support for Android, 11 new languages for iOS, and product availability in more than 25 addition countries around the world.”
Jawbone UP Release Date and Price
Available in a selection of varying hues based on consumer preference, including blue, mint green and onyx, the Jawbon UP UK release date has been set for today, March 20. The Jawbone UP price will see wannabe owners forced to part with £99, with the unit available either directly through Jawbone or via Carphone Warehouse and Apple stores.
