Jabra supercharges its Sport Pulse and Sport Coach headphones
Jabra is releasing Special Edition versions of its Sport Pulse and Sport Coach headphones and they both sound great.
Jabra’s original Sport Pulse was released way back in 2014 but remains one of our favourite fitness tracking headphones, even beating out competition from newer devices such as Sony’s Smart B-Trainer. The Sport Pulse were comfortable, secure and the in-ear heart rate monitoring proved more accurate than many of its wrist-based counterparts. Needless to say, we were smitten and awarded it 9 out of 10 and a TrustedReviews Recommended award.
Now, Jabra has announced a new Special Edition is set to be released in Q3 of this year. What’s new, you ask? The new Sport Pulse Special Edition will now continuously calculate your VO2 Max when used alongside the Jabra Sport Life companion app for iOS and Android. VO2 Max is a way to measure a person’s maximum rate of oxygen consumption.
Essentially, VO2 Max is a useful gauge of your overall aerobic fitness levels, so it’s another metric you can use to track your progress. You’ll get ongoing coaching and real-time feedback through the Jabra Sport Pulse Special Edition’s headphones as you run.

The Sport Coach is receiving an upgrade, too. While the Sport Pulse headphones were geared predominantly towards runners, the Sport Coach were more targeted towards cross training and bodyweight exercises. The companion Sport Life app had various workouts you could follow, with guidance provided through the headphones. A motion sensor was included in the original, but this was a basic step counter used calculating distance and cadence when running.
Now, with the new Special Edition, the TrackFit sensor has been bolstered to also count reps automatically. At launch, the TrackFit sensor will only be able to track 10 commonly performed exercises, such as lunges, burpees and pushups. This list should get updated over time.
Comfort and fit of both headphones were some of the biggest positives but new with the Special Edition versions are Comply foam tips. Jabra states these will help with sound quality. I’ve certainly always found Comply’s tips comfortable.
Both the Sport Pulse Special Edition and Sport Coach Special Edition are rated as dust and water resistant to IP55, so no worries around their durability during sweaty and intense workouts.
There’s no UK pricing announced just yet, but the Jabra Sport Pulse Special Edition has an RRP of $159.99 while the Sport Coach Special Edition comes in slightly less at $119.99.
