A new report claims that the Apple Watch will come in multiple screen sizes, and will pack an array of some ten sensors.
Just yesterday a couple of reputable sources claimed that the iWatch would pack a 2.5-inch display. However, today’s Wall Street Journal report claims that there could be more than just this one form factor.
“The smartwatch will likely come in multiple screen sizes,” claims one person familiar with the matter.
Given that most smartwatches to date (such as the Samsung Gear 2 and the Sony SmartWatch 2) utilise displays in the 1.6-inch range, this makes a certain amount of sense. We’d guess that a 2.5-inch iWatch would be at the top-end of the range in terms of size.
Another interesting claim made by the paper is that the iWatch will pack “more than ten sensors.”
Some of these will apparently be dedicated to tracking the wearer’s health and fitness, which will be a major focus for Apple in its mobile devices from now on.
At last month’s WWDC 2014 event, Apple revealed its new Health app, which will collect a user’s health and fitness data for use in a variety of different ways.
Also, the report claims that Apple wants to address lingering criticisms of the smartwatch concept that it doesn’t offer anything meaningfully different to the smartphone experience.
The Wall Street Journal joins a number of recent reports in predicting an October launch date for Apple’s iWatch. It claims that production is due to begin at Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer in “two to three months.”
