iWatch release date tipped again for Q4

The Apple Watch release date has again been tipped for Q4 2014, with the device hopefully arriving before Christmas.

There’s been a lot of speculation of late as to when the iPhone 6, with its two potential sizes, and the iWatch will launch.

The majority of rumours peg the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 for a September launch, with the larger 5.5-inch model arriving in December alongside the iWatch.

A fresh report has again tipped the iWatch for a Q4 2014 launch, which means we could see it touch down sometime between September and December.

This prediction is from a recent conference held by TPK, a longstanding Apple component supplier though to be the company behind the iWatch’s silver nanowire ink touch panels.

When talking about expected profit for Q3 2014, TPK representatives said they were originally expecting an extremely profitable third quarter thanks to the aforementioned deal with Apple for the touch panels.

However, these expectations have now shifted, and the company is expecting a rather large windfall in Q4 2014, thanks to the iWatch entering mass production during that period.

If these rumours are correct, we could see the iWatch be quite the dinky device. Silver nanowire touch modules can be implemented in flexible displays, but their main benefit is that they don’t require additional touch sensors to function. This means the overall body of the iWatch could be a lot thinner than the competition, including the LG G Watch or Samsung Gear Live.

This sin’t the first time we’ve heard of the iWatch production being delayed, but seeing as Apple has never outlined any launch schedule for its first wrist-worn gadget, it’s pretty impossible to see whether it really has been delayed or is actually on schedule.

Apple would be wise to launch the iWatch before Christmas, as it’s bound to be one of the gadgets consumers will want in their stockings this year.
