A new contender emerges to push around the big boys.
In the increasingly overcrowded world of Portable Media Players (PMPs) it takes a lot to stand out from the crowd, but standing Crouch tall is the latest model from iubi Blue.
Imported by UK disty Advanced MP3 Players the new iubi Blue sports a humungous 4.3in 480 x 272 resolution screen (capable of supporting video at 720 x 480 running at up to 30fps), a slim (19mm) body and relatively portable weight (260g).
Codec support is the most comprehensive I’ve ever seen covering Mpeg1, 2, 4, DivX 3 onwards, Svid, WMV, H.264, AVI, OGM, MOV and Real video while integrated 12mW per channel speakers with Wolfson 3D sound enhancement should prove a step up from the usual tinny fodder.
Direct AV recording using the player’s internal Mpeg4 encoder means TV, DVDs and VHS can be ripped directly onto its capacious 30GB hard disk and the compression is good managing to fit up to 75 hours. The player can also be plugged directly into a PC to be used as a mass storage device and features drag and drop file support so transferring media to and from multiple computers will be a doddle.
Cutting even more mustard is the iubi Blue’s Bluetooth connectivity which enables wireless data transfers and is compatible with Bluetooth headphones offering easy listening at up to a 10m range. The icing on the cake is a quoted battery life of eight hours for video and fifteen for audio so those long distance flights are well and truly covered.
Little known in the UK, the Korean based iubi Blue looks set to make a name for itself with this little marvel. Currently exclusively available from Advanced MP3 Players it carries an RRP of £249 and comes with free next day delivery and a £10 discount off a pair of Abe BT55D Bluetooth Stereo Headphones.
I may not have been prepared to sell my granny for Apple’s first generation ‘video’ iPod, but I may be tempted to part with the entire wing of an old peoples’ home for this swanky newcomer…
