ITV Player comes to Amazon Fire TV
ITV Player is now available on the Amazon Fire TV streaming box.
The app will also work on the existing Fire TV model. It will be available for Amazon’s Fire TV Stick later this month.
However, ITV Player isn’t long for this world. ITV recently announced it would be replaced by The ITV Hub, a one-stop shop for all your ITV needs. This will also replace the ITV.com website, and will combine existing programme pages with on-demand content.
The moribund ITV Player app will be updated and rebranded as The ITV Hub when the new service goes live later this year.
“The launch of ITV Player on Fire TV is great news for our customers,” said Jorrit Van der Meulen, vice president of Amazon Devices EU. “ITV Player adds to the growing number of third-party apps available for Fire TV and offers our customers easy access to sports, documentaries, news and soaps from ITV’s world-class catalogue.
“We’re delighted to welcome ITV Player to the Fire TV platform, and look forward to adding even more partners in the coming weeks and months.”

According to Amazon, the Fire TV is its top-selling device in its category, while the Fire TV Stick is its fastest-selling device ever. They now have more than 3,000 channels, apps and games available, including Netflix, Amazon Video, BBC iPlayer and Demand 5.
Both face stiff competition from the Google Chromecast 2. Roku is also rumoured to be ready to launch a new streaming box any day now.
