Is this our first look at the iPhone 6C?

A newly leaked image may offer our first glimpse of Apple’s rumoured plastic iPhone 6C smartphone.

The prospect of an iPhone 6C has long been little more than a pipe dream, until rumours emerged last week suggesting the spin-off device might actually be real.

According to the leaks, Apple is working on a 4-inch phone with a Gorilla Glass-coated LTPS display, and will come packing a range of colourful, plastic chassis.

Now it appears mobile parts reseller Future Supplier (via Phone Arena)has bagged itself the rear housing of a salmon-coloured iPhone 6C.

There are a few subtle design changes we’ve gleaned from the image, although it should be noted that we have no way of verifying that the snap is real.

One difference between the iPhone 5C and the alleged iPhone 6C is that the flash hole is now oval – like the iPhone 6 – rather than round, like the 6C’s predecessor.

There are also now two speaker grills on the bottom of the handset, compared to the single grill on the iPhone 5C.

But what are the chances of Apple launching an iPhone 6C? Quite high actually, considering the handset did manage respectable sales figures.

It could also be a ploy to engage with consumers that like 4-inch smartphones, a demographic that the large iPhone 6 and 6 Plus can’t cater for.

The iPhone 5C also famously shipped in a range of hues, so the iPhone 6C could be Apple’s effort to make sure there’s still plenty of colour in its iPhone range.

The handset was also cheaper than its sibling Apple handsets, and a more budget-friendly iPhone could sit well with consumers considering the high cost of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Of course, if this device is actually real, Apple won’t release any official material on the rumoured device until its launch event, which could be months away.
