Welcome to The Refresh, a weekly series every Friday from TrustedReviews where we pick out the week's highlights from the tech world.
This week's top story:
iPhone 7: One of the busiest weeks in tech was kicked off by Apple. Love em or hate ‘em, the new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus caused quite a buzz, featuring a refined design, A10 fusion processor, new cameras, 25% brighter screen, new home button, stereo speakers, IP67 water resistance and a couple of shiny new colours.
The 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus was also unveiled, sporting a new dual 12 megapixel camera setup. The wide-angle telephoto lens gives you up to 2x optical zoom and, coming later in the year, a nifty depth of field bokeh effect.
What iPhone fans here in the UK may not be so keen about is the price hike, with the cheapest 32GB iPhone 7 costing £599, £60 more than the iPhone 6S was at launch.
Also in the news this week:
Apple Watch Series 2: For you smartwatch fans, the new Apple Watch Series 2 has been announced with a significantly brighter, 1000-nit screen, faster dual-core processor, built-in GPS and water resistance to depths of 50m so now you can take it for a swim.
PS4 Pro: Sony showed off the new PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim consoles during an event that left some of us slightly baffled by the absence of a Ultra-HD Blu-Ray player in the Pro. The console features a significantly more powerful graphics chip for better looking and higher resolution games. It also supports 4K video streaming as well as High Dynamic Range games.
Note 7 Airline ban: The USA’s chief aviation authority has warned against using the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on aeroplanes due to a fire risk. This follows several airlines including Qantas and Virgin Atlantic which have already banned the new phone.
