When the death of Dell's Adamo was announced last February many people were sad to see the super slim machines disappear, however Dell gave us a glimmer of hope saying it would be releasing a new svelte laptop in the coming months.
Now we have been given our first glimpse of what could be the Adamo’s successor, in the form of the 15.6in Dell XPS 15z. The guys over at Mobile Review have got their hands on an early unit and published some pictures of the laptop on their website. Details of the laptop are thin on the ground at the moment but what we do know is that the XPS 15z will ship with Sandy Bridge Core i5 and i7 processors, which you would expect from a new top-of-the-line laptop. With the most recent MacBook Airs still on the first generation of Intel Core processors, Dell will certainly have an advantage if it brings the new laptops to market soon.
There is little else known about the specs on the laptops though Dell will be bringing out 14in and 17in models to compliment the 15.6in model. Looking at the images of the new Dell laptop, it’s not too clear how thin the units are but they will face some stiff competition not only from Apple but also Samsung who recently released their uber-svelte Series 9 laptop. The market for super portable high-end laptops seems to be growing and the trend to reduce the size and weight looks set to continue until they disappear completely and we’ll just have to guess where the keyboard is.
We’ll be keeping an eye out for more specs on this new laptop from Dell and bring you all the news when we get it. For now let us know in the comments what you think of the look of Dell’s new super slim laptop.
