Exciting prototype will be put into mass production...
“If Apple can make a phone…”
This seems to have been the reaction by many to the reaction of the iPhone but with the likes of GPS specialist Garmin’s(still unreleased) nüvifone, Meizu’s M8 and talk of an LG / Microsoft handset partnership, but a common theme is none have yet managed to get their hardware onto the market. Perhaps iRiver will have more luck…
This week the Korean MP3/PMP specialist has announced the it will be putting a concept handset it showed off at CES 2008 into mass production.
As you might expect, very little is known about a model currently dubbed the ‘KT Internet Phone’ (branding may need to get a little better than that fellas) with iRiver manufacturing father figure Reigncom saying little more than it would be web-centric, feature WiFi and obviously use a full touchscreen interface.
Perhaps more to the point, of course is whether we will ever see the (slightly bezel heavy – agree?) KT anywhere remotely outside the Far East. I’m hedging towards deliberate cynicism here to curb disappointment but I wonder if Garmin, Meizu and iRiver could be just the first of many?
Let’s hope so…
