No way back for Apple now?
The Dev Team has made good on their promises and it’s potentially revolutionary ‘Pwnage’ tool is now available.
Launched today for Mac only (a Windows version will follow soon), the app makes takes the unprecedented step of enabling iPhone owners to upload hacked firmware directly to their handsets. This enables such actions as unlocking and third party installations to be performed automatically.
Up until now owners have had to upgrade their firmware and re-jailbreak their handsets, Pwnage would mean this frustrating step can now be bypassed.
“The ‘DevTeam’ would like to announce the release of the OS X version of the PwnageTool application,” said the group in a formal statement. “The team (and especially Wizdaz) have been working hard to bring you this release in as short a time as possible.”
Despite its release, wrinkles are still being taken out of Pwnage with the first patch (fixing a WiFi glitch) already out (it will be integrated into future versions). A hacked beta of the much anticipated 1.2.0 firmware, which brings App Store, is already doing the rounds and a video of Pwnage in action has been released.
Exciting news, unless you work at Apple…
”’Note:”’ Yes, the Dev Team did announce on 1 April that it was selling up to an unnamed third party and cancelling all projects, including Pwnage. And yes, we’re amazed so many (often credible) sites fell for it too…!?!
