iPhone owners smarter than Samsung or BlackBerry users survey finds

Your phone says a lot about you and now, according to a dubious consumer test, iPhone owners can boast to be the smartest of all smartphone owners - that is if they want to become hated.

According to a new "survey", iPhone owners have been found to be more intelligent than their Samsung handset, BlackBerry device or Nexus phone owning counterparts.

The study, carried out by betting firm Ladbrokes tested 1,000 UK smartphone owners. Having asked participants to register the manufacturer of their phone first, those quizzed were then tasked with answering a series of brainteasers to test their general knowledge, problem solving skills and pattern recognition.

With participants unable to progress to the next question until they had correctly selected which of the multiple choice answers was correct, total user times were then used to determine which smartphone owners are the brightest.

According to the study, which we must stress is more a light-hearted social experiment that hard science, iPhone owners were the brainiest, completing the seven question challenge in an average time of just 94 seconds.

Hot on the heels of iPhone owners were users of Google’s owner-branded Nexus handsets, with an average completion time just five seconds slower at 99 seconds.

Although a Samsung handset owner clocked the quickest overall time with a 47 second test completion, overall Samsung owners could only record the third fastest average at 103 seconds.

With HTC and Nokia handset owners finishing in fourth and fifth respectively with average times of 105 and 109 seconds, BlackBerry owners were found to be the least intelligent, and not just because their phones are still stuck in the past.

Not even close to the rest of the field, BlackBerry owners could only manage an average test time of 118 seconds, almost half a minute slower than iPhone owners.

Is this just a load of rubbish or do you think there's something in these results? Let us know what you think your smartphone says about you in the comments.

How muvh did apple pay you to say this?

An idiotic test taken out by a betting shop of all places (let's ignore the fact that most "educated" people would want there name or details associated with such a place. Even some gamblers wouldn't go out of there way to associate themselves in anyway with gardening) but also using a sample too small to accurately reflect even a 10th of a percent of mobile sales for these three companies last quarter. But finally in an article from the Daily Mail out of all news papers.

I could rant about the idiocy of the article for the rest of this evening but not only can I be bothered to write it but chances are you couldn't be bothered to read it.

Quite disappointing to find such an article from what I believed was a noteworthy tech journalist.

As an iPhone owner I'd assume you'd be smart enough to realise this is just a bit of fun so we don't all slump in a post new year depression :)

I am an iPhone user - what a pile of rubbish. And this is coming from an Apple user. Who wrote this stupid news article??

What a crock of doggy doo! How in the World could Apple's Applewellian Propaganda led fools be found to be smarter in all reality? lol...

When #1 They pay more for the same hardware parts that's in cheaper Android devices that serve the same purpose, Even though all those same parts in Apple products are the same in those cheaper competitors devices. So I guess they know Applewellians who've sold their souls out to Apple, can't even figure out how to run Android's myriad of better features and don't know they're still being baited by Steve Jobs, even after he's dead and gone, into falling for this RDF FUD'd Con!

Which is what all their brain dead iDiots even still, like to brag about in making Apple richer! hahaha.... Meaning they are all being baited into stuffing more cash into Apple's Double Dutch Irish Tax scams to make Apple and it's share holders richer, not them. Think about it..... Apple's inner and outer Party Proles are all running in a rat maze with an exercise wheel, powering share holder and administrator's MONEY MACHINE! .....a Con right out of a Gypsy Barker's Snake Oil selling repertoire!!!

And you can bet every single member of this bogus organization, sponsoring this so called survey are also Apple share holders, not Apple device users. Who all look at this as a rat maze race. Whereby they purposely put a FIX on the results! ;-P .......which proves iSheep are even dumber than any dumb sheep going through a chute to be slaughtered!

I think it's ridiculous for people to be so opinionated about others over what phone platform they use. I agree the article is in jest, but your last comment to Evan was uncalled for. People can use what they want. If you need to be "hip" then you are insecure. By the way, I personally love my Blackberry and I'm not ashamed of it one bit. I love my QWERTY keyboard and it has all the apps i want/need and all of the media capabilities like any phone. The browser is incredible too. Blackberry forever!

Erm, you do know how Google makes their money right, you know the global advertising company? They track everything you do on Android and sell that data to 3rd parties... they make 8x more from that than they do from Google Play revenue. If you think the NSA are snoopers you should do some research in how Google operate.

As a comparison Apple blocked 3rd party access to unique user IDs from the introduction of iOS6, hence why Apple pulled out of discussions to include Google Maps as a standard part of the OS build. Google wanted access to this UIDs. Apple said no as they wanted to protect user privacy.

With Android there is no user privacy. Read the terms and conditions of the OS. There is a reason why Google give the OS away for free to any handset company. They want market share and pure volume to make all that money from user data.

A couple of more points:

"They pay more for the same hardware parts that's in cheaper Android devices that serve the same purpose"... which Android phone has the Apple designed CPU and GPU again? Do a search on "iPhone A7 Chip Benchmarks" if you need a reminder.

Even the top end Android handsets won't have that 64 bit architecture until later this year. Not that they can do much with it when they do because the latest build of Android (Kit Kat) was actually re-engineered version of Jelly Bean to specifically work with lower spec handsets to reduce it's horrific fragmentation issues. Yep, that's the real reason that OS runs faster than the last version... they downgraded it for budget phones! Even Google has given up with high end handsets after the failure of their overly hyped Moto X handset (they followed it up with a more basic phone).

In comparison Apple designs their OS's to run and get the best from its latest hardware. Google doesn't even do that for their phones - they can't do that without upsetting all the budget OEMs. Google had such a bad year for Android that the only thing they only talked about their niche products like Google Glass and their robots. The only upside is that there were more budget phones released to increase market share for them.

"Apple's Double Dutch Irish Tax scams"... where do you think Google have there European HQ for accounting purposes?

"sponsoring this so called survey are also Apple share holders"... nope these surveys have been happening on an annual basis and from top research companies too. With the same results. Again, search on it.

"Whereby they purposely put a FIX on the results". Right, again, what have Android handset makers been doing recently? Yep they have been fixing their own benchmark results. Search on "Samsung not the only one boosting benchmarking results" or even "Samsung Fined $340,000 For Paying People To Bash HTC"... where they paid students to bad mouth competitor products.

Here's the best one for you. Do a search on this "percentage of iphone owners moving from android". You are right, Android owners are smarter than they look.

January 3, 2014, 12:40 am

It's a dumb article. A big percentage of Android handset owners are smart. For example do a search on this, "percentage of iphone owners moving from android".

January 3, 2014, 12:42 am

Samsung pay people, search "Samsung Fined $340,000".

January 3, 2014, 12:49 am

Also, let's be frank here, most Android phones are aimed at kiddie winks anyway. They even have a little green robot cartoon character as the mascot. Way cuuuuute... If you're their target demographic that is.

Apple doesn't have a cartoon mascot or need to name their operating systems after candy bars from global conglomerates (i.e the evil Nestle who also produce powdered milk that kills babies). Nope. Apple doesn't do that because, well, most of their customers are adults. Adults with college degrees and jobs. Hence the results of this survey BTW... which also has been reflected in countless other similar surveys year in, year out.

January 3, 2014, 12:33 pm

We get it, you love Apple. Grow up. They're just gadgets, no point getting your panties in a twist.

January 3, 2014, 12:37 pm

Obama is also a Blackberry user, so that pretty much junks all over these "findings" (if anyone was ever in doubt!). It is supposed to be a bit of fun, but Pazoozoo sure seems to be taking it seriously!

January 3, 2014, 2:46 pm

I meant Blackberry owner as is that's why he doesn't like the article or survey - i.e. because Blackberry users came last. I have no problem with keyboard phones.

I personally think BB10 is an excellent OS in some respects but is inadequate in others. Also if Blackberry is to stage any sort or comeback it needs to seriously look at the pricing for it's phones.

January 3, 2014, 8:16 pm

iOS aren't named after cats. That's the desktop OS's. Besides they don't make it all cute and bright and spout kiddie stuff like "we love cats, meow, meow, meow.". Google will there clown font and color scheme on the other hand, "we decided to name the next version of Android after our favorite chocolate treats, KitKat!" What, are they seven years old? Check out their web site about it and compare it to Apples page on iOS7. Clearly their target demographics are different.

Also search the internet. It's not the first time there has been a survey like this.

2013 - Search "iPhone Users Are Younger, Wealthier and Generally Smarter 2013". That was published by Forbes magazine.

2012 - Search "iPhone users older, richer, better-educated 2012"

2011 - Search "iPhone Users vs. Android Users: Who's Richer, More Polite 2011"

... and so on.

In the meantime there's a bunch of Fandroid toys for you. Search on "android toys" or "android plush". As I said. Their phone brand is aimed at kids...

Just adding balance to hysterical Fandroids Greg. Just adding balance. Oh, and the facts to back it up.

Well said mate, on top of that back it up with other articles. Often posts like these prepare yourself to be called names or insulted with taking this article too seriously or "paid by apple". But never a reply with a proper argument. Thanks for taking the time to put down what many tech fans know.

I love the "why would someone pay for an iphone with mid tier specs?" argument. They think specs really matter. Funny, and then get insulted to be generalized with other non apple users. Comments like that, really prove these articles right.
