iPhone Air concept hints at possible iPhone 6 design
A slick looking iPhone Air concept design from a third-party designer shows what the iPhone 6 would look like if Apple applied its iPad designs to the iPhone.
Taking design hints from both the iPad Air and iPad mini 2, the new iPhone Air concept shows a slimline handset with a softly curved brushed metal rear, much like that found on Apple’s latest tablet offerings.
Shown using a Touch ID fingerprint scanner, as seen on the recent iPhone 5S, the iPhone Air concept adds a pair of base mounted speakers alongside Apple’s current Lightning port connector, a 3.5mm audio jack and the iOS 7 operating system.
Although the iPhone Air concept, designed by artist Federico Ciccarese, is in no way related to Apple’s own engineering plans, it offers a teasing insight into how the iPhone 6 would look if the Cupertino-based company extends its current design principles to the iPhone 6. A vision we totally approve of.
While the iPhone Air concept has a 4-inch screen identical to that of the current iPhone 5C, recent iPhone 6 rumours suggest that Apple’s next flagship phone could see it make a jump to a larger screen size in order to compete with the leading Android offerings, such as the Google Nexus 5, Samsung Galaxy S4 and LG G2.
According to recent reports, Apple is experimenting with an iPhone 6 design that has a 5-inch Retina display and a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution equating to 440 pixels-per inch. Further iPhone 6 rumours have pointed to an increased 128GB storage capacity alongside the usual speed and camera improvements we see every year.
Of course, all of this is conjecture at this stage, but one thing is certain: the iPhone 6 will be a completely new design, so we expect to see a few more ‘concepts’ and possible leaks in the months ahead.
