iPhone 7 could miss out on one huge upgrade

If you’re excited for a dual-camera iPhone 7, you better have some big hands.

Apple is planning to include dual cameras on the larger version of the iPhone 7 only, a new report claims.

The iPhone 7 has been rumoured to sport a dual-camera setup for several months now, but it’s now been suggested that only the 5.5-inch handset will receive the upgrade.

That’s according to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who made the claim in a note to investors, which was subsequently obtained by Apple Insider.

In the note, Kuo wrote:

“[The] top hardware upgrade is dual-camera (5.5-inch model only), though many competing models with dual-camera will launch soon, joining others already on the market; first impressions could underwhelm.”

Last year, Apple acquired an Israeli camera technology company called LinX for around $20 million.

In 2014, LinX announced several camera modules comprised of multiple apertures that could create “stunning colour images and high-accuracy depth maps”.

It’s said that Apple is looking to incorporate a dual-sensor version of a LinX camera into the iPhone 7, although Apple has remained silent on the matter.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 7 at a dedicated event in September this year. The device is expected to land alongside a larger iPhone 7 Plus, although that’s not yet confirmed.

The Cupertino technology giant recently unveiled its first 4-inch iPhone since 2013’s iPhone 5S: the iPhone SE. That handset went on sale on March 31.
