iPhone 7 will be available in this all-new colour, apparently

The iPhone 7 will arrive with a colourful new paintjob when it launches later this year, according to a new report.

Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a Deep Blue colour option for the upcoming iPhone 7. The brand new hue will join existing iPhone colour options like Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold. That’s according to a new report by unofficial Apple news site Mac Otakara, which cites anonymous sources for its information.

Interestingly, the sources also supposedly claimed that there is a “high possibility” Apple will abandon the Space Grey colour option:

“As a Deep Blue will be added to the current Silver, Gold, and Rose Gold, it is highly likely that the Space Grey will be discontinued, says the informed source.”

Apple first adopted the Space Grey colour option way back in 2013 with the launch of its iPhone 5S. The colour has since been available for every subsequent iPhone, and also features on other devices like iPads and some MacBook models. A Deep Blue option has, however, never been available.

We can’t verify this latest leak, so take it with some caution. Also bear in mind that Apple’s current iPhone colour palette is quite plain, so having a bold option like Deep Blue could leave it seeming out of place. Apple did experiment with brighter colours with 2013’s iPhone 5C, but never bothered building a successor to the tepidly received handset.

Apple is expected to unveil its new flagship iPhone 7 later this year, at its annual September product launch. The company hasn’t released any official details about the rumoured handset, but plenty of details have leaked out. One of the biggest mooted changes it Apple’s alleged abandonment of the headphone jack. However, we won’t know anything for certain until September.
