Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 6S Plus, the larger 5.5in flagship for 2015.

Following on from the successful iPhone 6 Plus launched in September 2014, Apple has just released another supersized smartphone.

It comes with a host of new features, including 3D Touch, a tougher aluminium body and the strongest glass display yet.

iPhone 6S Plus Features

  • Apple 64-bit A9 processor
  • 5.5in 1080p Full HD display
  • 3D Touch
  • Faster Touch ID
  • 12-megapixel iSight camera with optical image stabilisation and Retina Flash

  • 5-megapixel front-facing FaceTime HD camera
  • 4K video recording

  • Apple Pay
The iPhone 6S Plus comes with the same 5.5in-sized display, but it includes more features than its predecessor. Powered by a new taptic feedback engine, the new iPhone 6S Plus comes with 3D Touch.

This gives you access to two new gestures known as Peak and Pop. Peak is when you press lightly on the screen, giving you a preview of the content or access to some quick shortcuts to your apps on the homescreen. Navigating straight to selfie mode on the camera app, for example.

Pop, on the other hand, brings up the full content or an app just by pressing harder on the screen.

For example, lightly press on an email and get a quick preview, but if you decide you need to reply to that message, press harder to Pop it out in full view. You can also Peak at web pages on weblinks without having to move out of the app you're already in.

The iPhone 6S Plus is powered by Apple's new third-generation, 64-bit A9 processor with a new transistor architecture. Apple claims it's been "optimised for real-world use".

As for the design, the iPhone 6S Plus is now protected with a new Apple custom alloy – series 7000 aluminium, which is the same used in the aerodynamic space. It comes in Silver, Gold, Space Grey and a new Rose Gold finish.

The glass on the screen has been improved too, with Apple claiming it's the toughest glass yet. So hopefully no more cracked screens. For now anyway.

In terms of the camera, it's been revamped with a brand-new 12-megapixel iSight camera that offers 50% more pixels. That's quite the improvement on the already excellent 8-megapixel option from last year.

You'll also be able to record both HD and 4K videos on the iPhone 6S Plus for the first time with a staggering 8 million pixels.

The front-facing camera has been slightly revamped, with the iPhone 6S Plus featuring a 5-megapixel FaceTime HD camera. The Retina display on your iPhone 6S Plus also now becomes your front-facing Retina flash, with the processor boosting the screen's brightness by three times when you use it as a flash.

Also present is a new camera-roll feature called Live Photo. It captures 1.5 seconds either side of the image for frame-to-frame views that bring your photos to life. It's automatically applied to any photo you take if the feature is switched on.

I have a few questions for the TrustedReview team, and I hope you guys take a few seconds to answer. How do you actually feel about Force Touch or 3D Touch or however Apple wants to call it? Do you really think it'll genuinely be useful, or do you think it might become a gimmick that frustrates sometimes because you keep doing the wrong thing on accident?
