iPhone 6S mass-production delayed, says analyst

Apple’s iPhone 6S has reportedly suffered a production setback, despite being weeks away from the expected launch.

A new report suggests the mass-production of Apple’s next flagship smartphone has been delayed by one to two weeks.

That means manufacturing won’t begin until the latter half of August, according to the generally reliable KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (via UDN).

The reasoning? Apparently manufacturing facilities are taking longer than expected to wind down production of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The iPhone 6S – and its spin-off iPhone 6S Plus sibling – are being produced by Foxconn (60%) and Pegatron (40%).

Both are seasoned Apple suppliers, so a setback at this stage is unfortunate.

It should be noted, however, that Kuo says he still expects both models to ship in September as previously rumoured.

The general consensus is that the iPhone 6S will go on sale on September 25 in the UK and US.

However, Apple is tipped to actually unveil the device on September 18, which is when pre-orders are tipped to kick off.

Apple has reportedly ordered between 85 and 90 million iPhone 6S handsets from its suppliers this time around.

That’s up on the 70 to 80 million iPhone 6 and 6 Plus units ordered for the initial batch in 2014.

So what’s new about the iPhone 6S? We’re expecting to see an A9 chip on board, a jump to 2GB of RAM, a Force Touch display, a 12-megapixel camera, and Apple’s new iOS 9 mobile operating system.
