Apparent schematics for the forthcoming iPhone 6 have appeared online over the weekend.
The above photo and more like it have cropped up on China’s Weibo social network. They appear to show designs schematics of the iPhone 6, as well as manufacturing moulds for the much-rumoured smartphone.
According to the source, these photos have been obtained from a Foxconn facility, Apple’s major manufacturing partner in China.
Of course, it’s extremely tough to corroborate whether these images are genuine, or, if they are, whether they portray Apple’s next smartphone or some other product entirely.
The technical drawings are just that – wireframe sketches full of dense Chinese text and arrows – while the moulds are simply large metal slabs to the untrained eye.
Even if these are for the iPhone 6, it’s impossible to tell which of the rumoured screen sizes they pertain to. It’s been claimed that Apple is looking to launch both a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch smartphone later in the year.
The latest reports on iPhone 6 production claim that development of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 is further along than the larger ‘phablet’ variant. Last week it was claimed that the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 would enter production in July, while production of the 5.5-inch iPhone might not kick of until September.
With these reports in mind, it’s more likely that these images are for the smaller iPhone 6.
Whatever the size of the next iPhone, expect to see it running on Apple’s next mobile operating system, iOS 8.
