The iPhone 6 release date has been delayed until 2014 after Apple tried to push the next-generation handset out ahead of schedule, latest reports have suggested.
With Apple reportedly targeting a 2013 launch for the iPhone 6, with the device tipped to land in October after a March iPhone 5S arrival, industry insiders have suggested that manufacturing issues with the handset’s display have caused Apple to push the device back to its original 2014 billing.
Offering a potential insight into the arrival of Apple’s next wholesale handset overhaul and follow-on of the current iPhone 5, Jefferies analyst Peter Misek has suggested that a larger, 4.8-inch iPhone 6 will now not be made available to consumers until the middle of 2014.
“We believe a summer CY14 launch was originally planned, but Apple tried to accelerate it to stem its market share losses,” Misek said in his speculative Apple roadmap issued to investors. “The earliest Apple could have launched the 4.8-inch phone would have been this fall (with a target of Oct); however, our checks indicate that Apple’s suppliers are running into difficulties trying to scale the screen size from 4-inch to 4.8-inches.”
Suggesting the Apple CEO Tim Cook recently made efforts to deflect desire for an even larger iPhone offering, Misek added: “We believe Tim Cook defended the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5 on the last earnings call in order to avoid freezing iPhone shipments in the quarters before a 4.8-inch launch.”
iPhone 6 Rumours
Although far from official, a flurry of iPhone 6 rumours are currently doing the rounds with Apple widely expected to bring the fight to the likes of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 by making the iPhone 6, said to be passing under the moniker of the iPhone Math, jump to a new 4.8-inch form factor.
Whilst few details are currently known about the next-gen device, it has been reported that, like the current 2012 iPod touch, the iPhone 6 will be made available in “6-8 colours”, building on the current black and white options with more vibrant hues.
Adding to the flurry of iPhone 6 rumours, last week a claimed iPhone 6 handset was reportedly spotted at a Chinese component supplier alongside the widely expected iPhone 5S.
