iPhone 6 outselling iPhone 6 Plus ‘five-to-one’ in Europe

Apple has flogged five times as many iPhone 6‘s as it has iPhone 6 Plus handsets, according to new reports.

The latest smartphone sales data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech has revealed that Apple’s sized-down device has trumped its bigger brother across the continent.

The research firm measured sales of the smartphone duo in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and Spain.

Across Europe’s top five markets, the iPhone 6 has outsold the larger iPhone 6 Plus by five-to-one,” said Dominic Sunnebo, strategic insight director at KWP.

The analysts also revealed that Apple’s sales share had risen by 1.7 per cent compared to the same quarter last year.

It’s unsurprising news, as Apple’s reportedly struggling to meet demand for its latest smartphone fare.

Sunshine and rainbows this ain’t, however – Android is still tipped to be dominating Europe, accounting for 73.9 per cent of mobile operating systems across the five major markets.

Apple, on the other hand, racked up an OS market share of just 15.4 per cent, edging out over Windows Phone in third at 9.2 per cent.

KWP also discovered that Apple didn’t win over many new customers either, with 87 per cent of iPhone 6 and 6 Plus users already marked as existing iPhone owners.

Apple announced the new smartphones at a launch event in Cupertino, California last month.

New features include the firm’s latest A8 chip, iOS 8 out-the-box, and NFC functionality that works with Apple Pay to facilitate contactless mobile payments.
