iPhone 6 features to see 4.7-inch Retina screen introduced

New iPhone 6 rumours have started doing the rounds, with latest reports suggesting that the iPhone 6 features list will see a new 4.7-inch Retina display introduced.

Despite the iPhone 5S having only officially entered the market in recent weeks, industry experts have predicted that the phone’s 4-inch screen could soon make way for a larger iPhone 6 offering that will act as a closer rival to the mass of oversized Android phones currently doing the rounds.

With the flagship HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and LG G2 featuring 4.7-inch, 5-inch and 5.2-inch displays respectively, David Hsieh, Vice President of screen specialist DisplaySearch, has hinted that Apple could be forced into introducing a larger iPhone 6 screen.

Introduction of the iPhone 5S and 5C was the latest example that Apple has been slow in adopting the latest display technologies,” Hsieh said in a new DisplaySearch blog posting. “While 5-6 inch FHD resolution displays are rapidly growing in the smartphone market, the iPhone has stayed with the 4-inch 1136×640 screen for over a year and a half.”

He added: “Based on supply chain research, we believe Apple is planning to revamp nearly all of the displays in its products over the next year. This would indicate that Apple, once again, intends to count on display technology for new product innovation.”

Looking ahead to next year’s widely expected iPhone 6, Hsieh added that based on insider musings, Apple’s next flagship smartphone will play host to a “4.7-inch, 1280 x 720” screen.

What’s more, the industry analyst has claimed that a larger, phablet sized iPhone could also be in the works, with the mooted Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rival to run a “5.7-inch, 1920 x 1080” display to sit somewhere between the iPhone 6 and widely expected iPad mini 2.

Addressing Apple’s need to jump on the larger screen smartphone bandwagon, Hsieh added: “With the rapid evolution of technology and expansion in manufacturing capacity, advanced displays are more accessible, and it is necessary for Apple to bring its supply chain to the next level and take advantage of its integration capabilities.”
