iPhone 6 and iPhone 6L release date tipped for September 19

Both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models will go on sale on September 19, according to reports on the eve of the big Apple launch.

According to French side iGen.fr, there’ll be no delay in bringing the larger model (often dubbed the iPhone 6L and, more recently,. iPhone 6 Plus) to market, as had previously been reported.

However, the 5.5-inch model will only be available in “limited qualities” to begin with, which perhaps explains the speculation surrounding production problems.

That would mean expectant iPhone fanciers may have to be quick off the mark in order to secure and larger iPhone 6, something which would no doubt increase the aura around what promises to be Apple’s largest smartphone to date.

The September 19 release date predicted by iGen (which has good form in this arena) would be little surprise as it fits in with Apple’s timetables down the years. Usually the phones go on sale on the Friday during the week after the launch.

All will be revealed on Tuesday during the launch event, which kicks off at around 6PM UK time. Both handsets are likely to be revealed in full alongside the completed version of the iOS 8 software.

The company is also expected to launch the long-awaited iWatch during the event, while rumours have also pointed to a potential iPad Air 2 unveiling.
