iPhone 5S release date to be paired with 4.8-inch iPhone Math launch?

New iPhone 5S rumours have suggested Apple’s next-generation smartphone could be part of a surprising joint release, with latest reports suggesting a larger Apple handset is in the works in the form of the 4.8-inch ‘iPhone Math’.

An extremely speculative insight into the possibilities of an imminent iPhone overhaul, latest reports out of China have suggested Apple is working on a new Samsung Galaxy S3 rivalling 4.8-inch handset, with the plus-sized device reportedly sporting the unusual moniker of the iPhone Math.

Said to be heading for launch alongside the widely expected iPhone 5 release date, the claimed iPhone Math would see Apple’s second jump in screen sizes in less than 12 months with the current iPhone 5 the first Apple handset to feature a 4-inch display, up on the 3.5-inch offering found on previous models.

Suggesting that Apple “must land a big counter-offensive” on the wide-ranging collection of Android handsets that cover a broad range of screen sizes, the China Times has suggested that the iPhone Math will be officially unveiled alongside the iPhone 5S in June with a 12-megapixel camera in tow. The Chinese outlet suggested that “iPhone’s first large-size smartphone has become the key to Apple’s reproduction.”

iPhone 5S Rumours
Widely expected to be a direct follow-on to the current iPhone 5, a number of iPhone 5 rumours have circulated in recent weeks with the as yet unconfirmed handset expected to touch down later this year with a form factor identical to its immediate predecessor.

With an iPhone 5S release date still up in the air, a number of industry analysts have suggested Apple will product cycles to twice a year with the iPhone 5S expected by some to touch down in Q1 2013 alongside a revised iPad mini 2.

Although full iPhone 5S specs are unknown, recent iPhone 5S rumours have suggested the handset will play host to a selection of features that failed to make it to the iPhone 5, with analysts predicting a new “super HD camera/screen, a better battery, and NFC” are all to be thrown into the mix. What’s more, like the current iPod touch, it has been claimed the iPhone 5S will be made available in “6-8 colours.”
