The iPhone 5S has officially launch in the UK, and while Apple stores currently have limited stocks, online orders are being delayed until October.

In contrast to the usually seamless iPhone launches Apple has become known for, today’s iPhone 5S release has been clouded in confusion. While a lack of pre-order availability caused many to raise eyebrows, day one iPhone 5S orders from the online Apple store are being given the vague dispatch date of ‘October’.

Affecting all iPhone 5S colours and the trio of storage capacities, the iPhone 5S delays are also in place at a selection of networks and third-party retailers.

Yesterday in the run up to the iPhone 5S release, O2 confirmed that it would not have iPhone 5S stock in stores but would instead be letting wannabe owners order the phone with a “six-eight week” delivery time.

“Nearly #O2iPhone Friday! Get 5c instore & order 5s online & on phone. No 5s in stores but they'll order for you and say when it's in,” an O2 spokesperson stated via the company’s official Twitter feed.

An issue only affecting the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C orders are currently being listed with a dispatch date of “1-3 business days.”

At present Apple has offered no official cause for the iPhone 5S delays although it has been suggested that low yield rates of the new Touch ID fingerprint sensor could be behind the stuttering rollout.

Having been officially unveiled last week, today’s September 20 iPhone 5S release date had been hesitantly confirmed with by the Cupertino based company, telling consumers that the phone would be able to ‘order’ as the iPhone 5C is ‘released’.
