iPhone 5C saves man from gun attack

iPhone 5c gun shot

It may struggle to survive innocent collisions with the floor, but it turns out that the iPhone 5C is tough enough to deflect bullets.

In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old man was attacked when he confronted a group of teenagers who had switched off the water supply to the block of flats where he lived.

19-year-old Ryan Duggan, who has since been found guilty of attempted murder at Chester Crown Court, shot the victim with a sawn-off shotgun.

Despite abdominal injuries that have been described as “devastating”, the victim was able to return to his block of flats, where emergency services were subsequently summoned – all because of his well-positioned handset.

Detective Inspector Gary McIntyre from Cheshire Police said that the only reason he didn’t die is that his iPhone 5C, which was in his pocket at the time, took the brunt of the impact.

As you can see from the picture above, the smartphone took a serious beating, with the majority of its top half completely warped as a result.

“Duggan’s actions that night were extreme and shocking – the victim went outside to speak to the group about the fact they had turned off the water supply resulting in the defendant shooting him with a powerful weapon,” said McIntyre.

“Fortunately, the victim’s mobile phone took the brunt of the shot and, as a result of this, he survived. This is remarkable – had that phone not been in his pocket at that time he would undoubtedly have died.”

However, he added that the victim still faces a lengthy road to recovery, including multiple operations and rehabilitation.

Duggan has also been found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and will be sentenced on 10 July.

Just to nitpick TR, a shotgun doesn't fire bullets. It fires pellets called shot, hence the name....shotgun.
