The iPhone 5C price has been confirmed as the low cost Apple handset is officially unveiled, but the ‘budget’ iPhone isn’t all that cheap.

With the iPhone 5C features list seeing the colourful handset line up with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, Apple has confirmed that the iPhone 5C price will start from £469, hardly a wallet-friendly fee.

With the iPhone 5C release date confirmed for September 20, Apple has announced that the iPhone 5C price will be just £80 cheaper than the flagship iPhone 5S despite featuring a reduced array of specs and a cheaper, polycarbonate body.

“iPhone 5c is everything iPhone 5 was and more, in an all-new design packed with great features,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice Pof Worldwide Marketing said in unveiling the phone. He added: “iPhone 5c is designed with a beautiful polycarbonate enclosure that looks and feels so solid in your hand.”

While the 16GB iPhone 5C price has been set at £469, the larger 32GB model will move even weightier on you bank balance, setting wannabe owners back a full £549.

Formally unveiled following months of leaks and countless rumours, the iPhone 5c plays host to a collection of specs similar to that in the existing iPhone 5 just wrapped within a new, brightly hued body.

With five iPhone 5C colours set to be made available at launch (white, red, blue, green and yellow), the handset will hit retailers next Friday with a 4-inch Retina display lining up alongside the new iOS 7 operating system, the iPhone 5C specs sheet is further enhanced by an A6 dual-core processor and an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera.
