Following the official iPhone 5 unveiling, Apple has confirmed its sixth-generation smartphone will land later this month, with a September 21st iPhone 5 UK release date added to the diary.

In keeping with past launches, Apple has revealed that its latest flagship handset will hit retailers just nine days after its formal unveiling, with the confirmed September 21st iPhone 5 release date being pencilled in just two days after iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPad owners are given the opportunity to download the new iOS 6 update.

Set to launch in the UK and US simultaneously, the iPhone 5 release date has been the most hotly anticipated, and most widely speculated, date in the year’s tech calendar. Hitting retailers just months after the Samsung Galaxy S3, recent rumours and analyst reports have suggested that iPhone 5 sales could see Apple shift as many as 10 million of the handsets in its opening week on sale.

Whilst recent iPhone 5 launch reports have suggested the handset could be facing stock shortages as display manufacturer Sharp fails to meet its quota, large queues are once again expected outside Apple’s flagship stores ahead of release as demand for the iPhone 4S follow-on reaches fever pitch.

With UK and US consumers set to be amongst the first to receive the iPhone 5, Apple has confirmed that eager iPhone fans in Canada, France, Germany, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore will also be able to snap up the iPhone 5 on September 21st.

Continuing the high-profile rollout in the weeks which follow, those looking to pick up the iPhone 5 in a further 100 countries across the globe will be able to get their mitts on the device by the end of the year.

Apple iPhone 5 Pre-orders

With the iPhone 5 release date very much on the horizon, Apple has confirmed that those eager to snap up its long awaited handset will be able to pre-order their iPhone 5 handsets from this Friday, September 14th. Apple iPhone 5 prices have been set from £529 in the UK for the 16GB iteration in either of the black or white colour forms. Elsewhere, those looking to snap up the larger capacity 32GB and 64GB iPhone 5 models will need to part ways with £599 and £699 respectively.

With advanced orders running for a week before the handset makes its way to retailer’s shelves, it is likely that stocks could run short soon after the iPhone 5 release with strong demand set to test Apple’s supply chains.

Although the selection of UK retailers set to host the iPhone 5 have yet to unveil their pricing structures and contract allowances for the eagerly awaited handset, Apple has revealed that those seeking the iPhone 5 will be able to pick the device through official Apple stores as well as on Everything Everywhere, Orange, O2, T-Mobile, Vodafone and 3 in the UK.

Apple iPhone 5 Specs

The first of Apple’s handsets to move away from the company’s 3.5-inch form factor, the iPhone 5 lines up with an all new design wrapped around a 4-inch Retina display with a 1136 x 640p resolution.

With changes and iPhone firsts moving far beyond the handset’s plus-sized screen, the iPhone 5 lines up as a HTC One X rival playing host to a new A6 quad-core processor. With an 8-megapixel camera with integrated LED flash on the rear, the iPhone 5 camera collection is further bolstered by a centrally located front-facing snapper.

Lining up at just 7.6mm thick, down from the iPhone 4S’ 9.3mm heft, additional iPhone 5 features include a new 8-pin 'Lightning' dock connector and the ability to run on high-speed 4G LTE networks.
