One of the best bits about the new iPhone 5 is that it'll come with new headphones. The terrible little buds that have wreaked havoc on public transport for years are on the way out to be replaced with… Earpods. Yes, we're not too sure about the name either.
Although we in the TrustedReviews office like to think of Apple's new iPhone 5 headphones as mini hair dryers, Apple has decided to call its new buds Earpods, according to 9to5mac. The new earphones are much closer to an IEM design than the old type, directing sound into your ear canal more carefully than a vanilla-design bud.
Unlike an IEM earphone, though, they don't appear to use rubber tips to ease their way into your ears. They're all-plastic, cast in the usual Apple white shade.
9to5mac writes that these earphones will retail for the same price as the current buds, suggesting that they will come bundled with new iPhones and iPods, rather than being a premium accessory. The pictures of the headphones that were leaked last week show that they use a ported design - the little grille on the side is most likely there to improve bass response. However, if they reduce the leakage of current Apple earphones, they'll make the world a better place. For you and for me and… you get it.
