iPhone 4S users told ‘don’t update to iOS 6.1’

Vodafone has told iPhone 4S users ‘don’t update to iOS 6.1’ after Apple’s latest iOS update was found to cause issues with 3G internet connections.

Alerting UK subscribers to the issues via text message, Vodafone has warned iPhone 4S users off making the jump to the recent iOS 6.1 update, claiming Apple, which has yet to acknowledge the issue, is already working on a fix to reportedly widespread 3G issues.

Launched in recent weeks, iOS 6.1 brings a selection of new features to a range of Apple’s portable devices including the iPad mini and iPhone 5, with improved Siri functionality, including movie ticket purchasing, and iTunes Match additions introduced. At present it is believed the iOS 6.1 3G issues only affect the iPhone 4S.

“Some customers may occasionally experience difficulty in connecting to the network to make or receive calls or texts or to connect to the Internet,” an official Vodafone spokesperson announced via the company’s blog. “Apple is working on a solution to their software issue. These connection problems are intermittent.”

Warning those yet to make the jump to iOS 6.1 off the software update, Vodafone added: “While Apple’s investigations continue, we would recommend that anyone who has not yet installed iOS 6.1 on their iPhone 4S should delay doing so until Apple has confirmed that their problem has been fixed.”

iOS 6.1 Features
Available as a free, over-the-air update, iOS 6.1 was officially launched on January 28, with all Apple smartphone, tablet and iPod touch owners currently running iOS 6 able to make use of the update’s new functionality.

“iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads,” Philip Schiller, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing said at the time of launch.

As well as offering improved global 4G coverage, the iOS 6.1 update has seen users able to benefit from the chance to download individual songs from their iCloud accounts direct to their devices.

Described by Apple as “the world’s most advanced mobile operating system,” the iOS 6.1 update is fully compatible with a broad selection of Apple’s latest portable devices, including the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. Whilst on the tablet front the iPad 4, iPad 3, iPad 2 and iPad mini have all been given the nod, fourth and fifth generation iPod touch owners can also make use of the software update.
