Currys has touted an "Apple mystery product" on its list of the top 10 Christmas presents of the year. When the new iPad already has a spot on the list - the top spot no less - could the retailer be giving a nod to the long-rumoured iPad mini?

In the spirit of starting Christmas early, the DSG group, which includes Currys and PC World, has released a list of the top products for this Xmas. The "mystery product" from Apple sits pretty at number four, with a tantalising "£TBC" price.

Of course, there is no guarantee that the company is referring to the iPad mini, but it doesn't at present sell iPhones, and none of the iPod models exactly warrant the "mystery" tag, even if they are given minor updates later this year. Here's the wish list in full -

  1. Apple new iPad, from £399.99
  2. Kindle e-reader, from £89
  3. Google Nexus 7 tablet, £199.99
  4. Apple mystery product, £TBC
  5. Krups, Dolce Gusto, from £89
  6. Kindle Fire, £TBC
  7. Goji Tinchy Stryder: On Cloud 9 headphones, from £19.99
  8. Dyson DC44 vacuum cleaner, £TBC
  9. Tefal Actifry, from £179
  10. Nikon S3200 compact digital camera, £TBC

There's also one other thing to note here. The Kindle Fire has been given the number six spot - where the tablet still hasn’t been launched in the UK. Our best bet is that it refers to the Kindle Fire 2, though, which is rumoured to launch within the next couple of months.

Not au fait with the latest Amazon and Apple tablet rumours? Both the Kindle Fire 2 and iPad mini are expected to use screens around the 7in mark - although the iPad mini will reportedly have a 4:3 aspect screen like the iPad, while the Kindle Fire 2 is likely to be a little more widescreen. As both are intended to go head-to-head with the Google Nexus 7, expect pricing to stick under £300, and most likely under £200 for the Kindle Fire 2.

iPad mini, Kindle Fire 2 or Google Nexus 7 - which would you most like to see under the Christmas tree? (and, yes, we know it's July)
