Apple has confirmed that the upcoming iPad mini will feature integrated stereo speakers, refuting recent claims to the contrary by tablet rival Amazon.
Officially unveiled last week ahead of tomorrow’s November 2 iPad mini UK release date, Apple’s 7.9-inch tablet will boast stereo speakers, the company’s Senior Vice President of Marketing Phil Schiller has confirmed in an email to inquiring consumers.
Citing an email exchange between Schiller and an unnamed reader, Apple blog 9to5Mac has reported that the Apple VP has confirmed that the iPad mini speak “is stereo” when responding to questions on the ambiguous component that had been listed on the Apple site simply as a “built-in speaker.”
Earlier this week Amazon published an Amazon Kindle Fire HD advertisement knocking the iPad mini and comparing the two sub-sized tablets, suggesting the Apple offering had omitted a stereo speaker in favour of a downgraded mono option. Following Schiller’s comments however, Amazon has removed the ad which also knocked the iPad mini’s lower resolution display and lack of HD video content.
iPad mini Specs
Apple’s first attempt at sub 9.7-inch tablet device, the iPad mini, which was officially unveiled alongside the new iPad 4, plays host to a 7.9-inch display that feature’s a 1024 x 768p image resolution, similar to that of the now aging iPad 2. Thanks to its slightly larger display, the iPad mini boasts 35 per cent more screen real-estate over its standard 7-inch tablet rivals such as the Google Nexus 7.
With a dual-core A5 processor running the show, the iPad mini camera collection sees a 5-megapixel iSight offering on the rear with 1080p video recording capabilities paired with a second, FaceTime HD snapper up front. Available as a Wi-Fi only device at launch with a cellular model to be released later in the year, the iPad mini is set to be made available in Apple’s traditional trio of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage capacities.
Tipped as hosting a 10 hour battery life, Apple’s iPad mini touts a brushed aluminium backed design similar to that of the iPhone 5 with the 7.2mm thick, 308g in weight device to land in both black and white colour forms.
iPad mini Release Date and Price
With less than 24 hours to go until the November 2 iPad mini UK release date, latest reports have suggested that iPad mini pre-order stocks have sold out whilst a selection of early adopters in France have seen their advanced iPad mini orders already delivered.
More expensive that the likes of the Google Nexus 7 and Amazon Kindle Fire HD, the iPad mini UK price will see the tablet hit retailers from £269 for the 16GB edition. Those looking to plump for the 32GB or 64GB iPad mini will need to part ways with £349 and £429 respectively.
