iPad Air 3 to join iPhone 5se at Apple’s March event, report says

Apple will launch the long-awaited iPad Air 3 tablet at its forthcoming March event, according to reports on Wednesday.

9to5Mac sources say the refreshed slate will likely be announced alongside the iPhone SE and new first-gen Apple Watch models.

This week we reported on purported leaked drawings of the iPad Air 3, appearing to show four speaker units and an LED flash for the rear-facing camera.

Whether that will be the device shown off at the event – rumoured to be taking place on March 14 – remains to be seen.

According to the report, Apple may also be planning to make the next iPad Air compatible with the iPad Pro’s Apple pencil.

The iPad Air has not been updated since October 2014 so a refresh would mark the first revamp in almost a year and a half. In the meantime, Apple has released the 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the 4th generation iPad mini.

The iPad revamp will come at an important time for Apple with sales of its tablet line floundering.

During its quarterly earnings call yesterday, Apple revealed iPad sales are down 25 per cent on the same period last year.
