iPad Air 2 to launch October but not new iPad mini

Apple will apparently launch a new full-sized iPad tablet next month, but it won’t be accompanied by a new iPad mini according to a new report.

It’s widely expected that Apple will hold another event in October to launch new iPad and Mac hardware, as well as to announce the availability of OS X Yosemite.

Now, Taiwan’s Commercial Times has added its own take on things. According to the website, Apple’s iPad Air 2 will go into production this month with a view to an October launch.

However, the publication also claims that the next iPad mini will not be ready for launch at the same time. Rather, it claims that the new 7.9-inch Apple tablet will be made available in early 2015.

The claim is also made that the rumoured iPad Pro, which could feature a 12.9-inch display and a stylus, will follow the new iPad mini in the second quarter of 2015.

Recently, it was claimed that Apple would launch its new iPads and revamp its Mac range on October 21, but that date has since been disputed by other Apple commentators. It seems likely, however, that we’ll be seeing yet more new Apple hardware at some point next month.

The iPad Air 2 is expected to be even thinner than the iPad Air, and should feature the Touch ID system and A8 processor of the iPhone 6, as well as an improved camera. Some have claimed that it will also double up on RAM.
