Special report: iPad 3 / New iPad : What You Need To Know
Hands on: iPad 3 Review
Apple has officially announced the release date for the iPad 3, or "next iPad" as Apple likes to think of it. You’ll be able to get your hands on one from 16 March. That’s next week.
For once, we in the UK are not going to suffer for not living in the US. The iPad 3 will go on sale in the UK at the same time as the States. It’ll be available to pre-order once the Apple Store goes back online – hopefully later tonight. If you want to avoid spending the night on a pavement in a sleeping bag with hundreds of other Apple fans, we recommend considering pre-ordering.
The new iPad range will start at £399 or $499, matching the pricing of the iPad 2, and both Wi-Fi only and 3G models will be available. During the device’s launch, Apple was wary of giving the tablet a name other than iPad. Rumours that it would be called iPad HD were, apparently, inaccurate. Apple’s doing an Amazon – the naming scheme here is reminiscent of the Kindle range.
Regions lucky enough to be getting the iPad 3 on 16 March include the US, UK, Germany, France and Japan. Many other countries will join the iPad party a week later, on 23 March.
