Those curious folks beta testing Apple’s iOS 9.1 software have discovered a new feature which could potentially enable the Siri voice assistant to identify individual users by their voice.
MacRumors heard from two testers who found the feature when prompted to set up the always on ‘Hey Siri’ feature.
The screenshot posted explains how “this helps Siri recognise your voice when you say Hey Siri.”
This tool may be used to ensure the owner of the phone is the one calling out her name, although this hasn’t been confirmed by Apple.
With the always on feature, powered by the M9 motion co-processor, it could be used to ensure Siri doesn’t pipe up whenever other folks around yell “Hey Siri” just for jokes.
The new feature may not be security based, but could just be used to boost Siri’s voice recognition stills in general.
