iOS 8 and Dropbox don’t play nicely together

Dropbox has revealed that installing iOS 8 will prevent the ability to upload your photos and videos to its cloud service.

Apple’s latest mobile operating system, iOS 8, rolls out today, bringing with it a load of impressive new features.

Unfortunately, it will also inevitably supply a host of compatibility issues with third party apps and services. One of the most high profile to have been confirmed so far is Dropbox.

According to a post on the help section of the cloud storage giant’s website, iOS 8 and Dropbox don’t work too sweetly together at the moment. According to the company, it has discovered an issue that may prevent Dropbox and its photo-managing app, Carousel, from uploading your photos and videos to the cloud.

The result is that only the contents of your Recently Added album will upload automatically.

Dropbox has pushed a quick update to both the Dropbox app and Carousel that temporarily suspends the automatic backup function for your photos and videos.

The company ensures its users that it is working with Apple to resolve the issue, and will be updating its blog with the latest news on its efforts.

Until it’s resolved, Dropbox’s advice to all iOS 8 upgraders who use its service is to not delete any photos or videos from your device. You can also still upload your photos the old fashioned way, through the Dropbox desktop app.

It’ll involved hooking your iPhone up to your computer or Mac, which may feel quite unpalatable in this day and age, but it’s a small price to pay for keeping all those memories safe.
