iOS 7 beta demo reveals in-video zoom features

iOS 7 beta demos have started hitting the web, with the upcoming operating system confirmed to add new in-video zoom capabilities.

Officially unveiled earlier this week during WWDC, iOS 7 is set to be released for a range of iPhone and iPad devices this autumn. Although not formally discussed during the high-profile announcement, the software’s upcoming in-video pinch-to-zoom features.

Shown off by AppleInsider, the in-video zoom options have been demoed, with both the benefits and limitations of the video recording addition shown off.

Apple’s first iOS 7 beta adds the ability to zoom in and out, via a two-finger pinching motion, while recording video in the default Camera application,” the reports have confirmed. They added: “Zooming while shooting video works the same way as it does when taking a picture in iOS: Simply place two fingers on the screen, and expand them to zoom in, or pinch them closer together to zoom back out.”

Showing a relatively fluid zoom with little stepped incrimination to it, the iOS 7 in-video zooming demo has also highlighted how the iPhone’s small, digital zoom enhanced, sensor is still not the ideal option for making use of such benefits.

“Because there is no optical zoom on the iPhone’s tiny image sensor, image quality is greatly reduced when the picture is zoomed completely in,” reports stated. “Zooming in and out also does not affect the processing time in saving a video. The first iOS 7 beta saves the file to the Photos application just as quickly.”

One of many new additions to Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 7 will see a completely refreshed UI benefit from more refined app icons and a selection of user experience improvements. With full multitasking added to the software for the first time, iOS 7 will see a new, swipe up menu added for shortcuts to all manner of the software’s options and settings.
